MARKETING DESIGNS THE POSTER

Conference Poster Guidelines

IF YOU WOULD LIKE MARKETING TO CREATE YOUR POSTER FOR TRB OR ANOTHER CONFERENCE:

Below are the guidelines for submitting a request for poster design and printing. Please note that marketing will stay in touch with you throughout the whole process. Scroll to the bottom to see posters marketing has designed.

    1. All poster information must be sent in the TRB/Conference Poster Design Form.

    2. Word Count Guidelines:

      • For the poster to be readable from a distance, the amount of text on the poster should be around 1200 words or less.
      • 150 words fits well into a section that takes up 1/9 of the space, such as the Introduction.
      • A large methodology section in the middle of the poster should be about 400 words maximum.

    3. All files needed for the poster must be located in one folder or attached to one email. This includes: poster design form, images, graphics, charts, tables, etc. If the project was funded by KYTC, include a Team Kentucky Transportation Cabinet logo.

    4. All requests must be sent via email to both Michael Mabe and Robin Baskette:

    5. The poster design process for TRB should be complete before winter break. The marketing staff will be not be available until after winter break. Printing can take place after winter break if needed.

    SUGGESTIONS AND TIPS:

    • It’s helpful to think of your poster as 3 columns and to decide how many graphs, photos and visuals you will need.
    • Consider using bullet points, particularly in the methodology section.
    • Use graphs and visuals to explain your data instead of written paragraphs. You can caption each graph for more explanation.
    • If you have a lot of visuals, aim for less text.
    • You can include references – leave space towards the bottom.
    • If the project was in collaboration with KYTC it’s a nice gesture to acknowledge them in a section or in the poster heading near the authors’ names.
