Hugh Gabbard


 

  • Born in Big Hill, KY in 1945
  • Gabbard has been married to his wife Marilee for 48 years and has lived in Madison County for the majority of his life.
  • Gabbard has two sons, Jason and Grant. Both men work for The Allen Company, Inc., and serve as Executive Vice Presidents.
  • Served in the United States Army from October 1968 until June 1970, as a part of the 4/23 Mechanized Infantry, 25thInfantry Division in South Vietnam.
  • Assistant Resident Engineer in Madison County from May 1968-Janurary 1971 (while not in Vietnam).
  • Appointed Resident Engineer in Woodford County in January 1971, where he was in charge of construction of I-64 from Frankfort to Lexington.
  • Joined The Allen Company, Inc., in 1975, becoming President in 1987. He has overseen the growth of the company over the last 30 years, including acquisitions of Danville Construction (1984), Carey Construction (1990), and MA Walker Company (2005).
  • The Allen Company has been involved in many major construction projects:
  • I-75 in Southern Fayette County, all of Madison County, and Northern Rockcastle County.
  • I-64 in Clark County.
  • US 27 expansions in Jessamine and Garrard Counties.
  • Chemical Weapons Destruction Plant Site Development/Roadway Construction for Bechtel Parsons in Madison County.
  • Many other bypasses, commercial sites, etc.
  • UK Construction Management Lifetime Achievement Award Winner (2008).
  • Served on many industry and community organizations:
  • Plantmix Asphalt Industry of KY-Three Board Terms and President twice (1988 & 1996).
  • Kentucky Crushed Stone Association-Two Terms as Director and Chairman in 1986.
  • Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors-Two Board Terms and Chairman in 1999.
  • Kentuckians for Better Transportation-Board Member and Chairman in 2001.
  • Richmond Little League-former board member and president.
  • UK Construction Management Advisory Board
  • Many Bank Boards.
