Joe Crabtree has 28 years experience in transportation research. He is the former Director of the Kentucky Transportation Center at the University of Kentucky, and although now retired, he continues to contribute to research at the Center. Prior to becoming Director in March of 2010, he spent 18 years managing the Center’s research activities in the area of Intelligent Transportation Systems. This included substantial work in Commercial Vehicle Operations, Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC), ITS Planning and Architecture Development, ITS Standards, ITS Procurement, Traffic Incident Detection, Incident Management and Homeland Security. He is a native of Lexington, Kentucky and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1983 to 1987. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Versailles.
